A Word About Merit Badges Minimize

Advancement: at meetings, at camp or at home, Scouts can continue to work towards their next rank advancement. Learn a required skill, practice it and then ask a First Class Scout or rank above to evaluate your proficiency of the skill. It is the responsibility of the Scout to ask for help and/or sign off. Patrol Leaders will check (periodically) with their patrol members to determine who needs which skills or help in what areas.

As a Scout attains the required skills to advance in rank, they may begin to work on various Merit Badges. Merit badges are the Scout's initiative to pursue, achieve and complete!

1. Scouts need to meet and work closely with the Merit Badge Counselors to determine what activities need to be completed (even over the summer) and who might assist you in your goal. To determine the right Merit Badge Counselor to contact, check the list of the announcement board or on this website.

2. Scouts must obtain a merit badge card from a scoutmaster and completely fill it out. It is the Scouts' responsibility to keep the card, ensure it has all the required signatures, and once it is completed,

3. Present the card to Troop Advancement Chairman.

Note: Should a card be lost or mistakenly ruined (ie washed) prior to presentation to the Troop Advancement Chairman, the Scout will have to repeat the process of obtaining the card, the proper signatures and completing the information. This may require that the Scout re-do some or all parts of the badge if the counselor cannot remember which sections were completed by the Scout. This has happened to some of our Scouts, and they will tell you it is worth keeping track of those Merit badge cards! A helpful site: http://www.meritbadge.com/
